Get your Balm Balm on!

I recently attended a mini launch for Balm Balm and Spiezia this past weekend and I couldn't wait to share it with you. For this post i will just be covering the Balm Balm products and will do a post on Spiezia at a later stage. Lets get to it!

Balm Balm is a UK based company that produces and sells 100% Natural and 100% Organic Skincare products in select countries around the world.

Balm Balm has 4 Ranges:

Green - Fragrance free. Perfect for sensitive skin, babies and people who suffer from eczema
Pink - Rose Geranium. Great moisturizing properties.
Blue - Tea Tree. Great for sore muscles or injuries as well as oily skin (Brings your skin to balance).
Yellow - Facial Range. All the goodness your face needs!

All their products are verified by the Soil Association - meaning that all their suppliers' soil is tested and there are no traces of chemical fertilizers used in the soil to grow the ingredients used in the Balms.

Balm Balm do not believe in, or have ingredients that have been tested on animals. Their product range is certified as such by the BUAV and endorsed by Naturewatch. The same goes for all their suppliers as production of a product always involves a chain of people/companies (Love it!).

Balm Balm only uses recycled packaging. The containers containing your yummy balm balm, as well as the cardboard box, are made of recycled materials. Your balm balm can last up to 6 months when opened and 18 months un-opened. Make sure you don't store it in moist places (like your bathroom) as that will shorten the life span of your balm balm. As balm balm products contain beeswax, they will soften when exposed to heat. For easy application make sure your balm balm is stored in a cool place.

The very kind Susan Rowan (Balm Balm distributor for SA) gave me a few products to try out and tell you lovely ladies about. I received the Rose Geranium Face Balm, Tea Tree Lip Balm (tube) and the Fragrance Free Lip Balm (pot):

Rose Geranium Face Balm
Ingredients: Shea Butter, Sunflower Oil, Beeswax, Calendula Oil, Jojoba Oil, Rose Geranium.
I love the smell of the therapeutic Rose Geranium! I cant stop putting it on my hands as a moisturizer/hand balm. It soaks into your skin so beautifully and doesn't leave an oily film that gets all over everything you come in contact with. The skin on my hands looks so 'plump' and healthy. Love it!
Just a note: It is incredibly difficult to grow organic roses because tiny little bugs and parasites get into the rose petals and start eating away and you cant use pesticide to get rid of them.

Tea Tree Lip Balm
Ingredients: Shea Butter, Sunflower Oil, Beeswax, Calendula Oil, Jojoba Oil, Tea Tree.
The Tea Tree tube lip balm's consistency is a bit thinner than the face balm but works just as well! Unfortunately my boyfriend does not like the smell so i'm only permitted to apply it to my feet. This has worked wonders for my feet. I apply the balm just after showering/bathing at night and then put a pair of socks on so the balm can soak into my skin. In the mornings my feet are incredibly soft and feel amazing!

FYI: "Tea Tree is well known for being antibacterial and antiviral. Nothing could be better than dabbing a little tea tree lip balm onto cuts, grazes, stings, spots or sold sores."

Fragrance Free Lip Balm
Ingredients: Shea Butter, Sunflower Oil, Beeswax, Calendula Oil, Jojoba Oil.
This balm is a bit difficult to get out the little pot because it is quite hard. I haven't used this balm as much as the other two above but i'm dying to try out this tip from the Balm Balm (UK) website:
"ADD A LITTLE 'SOMETHING' TO YOUR BALM BALM
If you would like to add a little flavour to your Fragrance Free Lip Balm, try this…….. Remove Balm Balm lid and place jar in microwave for 60 seconds or until melted through. Add just one drop of your favourite essential oil or food flavouring. Stir with the end of a teaspoon. Put lid back on and place in the fridge to re set."
I think this is such a great idea because you can customize it to your favourite flavour/scent but still have all the amazing organic and moisturizing properties to give your skin the care it deserves!

My overall opinion about Balm Balm
I'm really loving the organic and natural route because my skin really 'agrees' with it. I have had no allergic reactions or skin irritations, my skin looks really healthy and I cant stop putting it on! Every product has so many different uses that its impossible not to want to put it everywhere! I'm so glad i was introduced to Balm Balm and encourage all you lovely ladies to purchase your own products. You wont be disappointed!

If you would like to order you own Balm Balm products or have any questions, you can contact Susan on 083 296 9966 or email her at susan@lovegreen.co.za.

Caviar Manicure (Updated)

I was browsing nail art ideas and I came across a new craze that is dominating the international beauty and nail industry. Its called a Caviar Manicure.

Concept:

Lovely picture and Tutorial from Lucy's Stash
How it works is you apply coloured micro-beads to your, wet, nail polish and when it dries, it looks like you have fish eggs/caviar on your nails. (It looks more like caviar when you use black beads but they come in all different colours to suite different styles and outfits).

Ciate, a UK brand, have claimed that they originally came up with the concept of a caviar manicure. You can visit their website Here
Picture from Lucy's Stash - View Tutorial for this look, Here
Not Another Poppie did a great review about what she thought of Caviar Manicures. Click here to visit her site.

My Turn:

Naturally, reading about all the hype, I had to try it for myself.
I had no idea where to get these beads besides online, which would kill my purse, and the odd craft shop here and there. Luckily for me I stumbled upon a strange smelling Chinese shop while window shopping in Pretoria. I was over the moon when I saw that they had 'cheap-cheap' nail art packs for R25 with micro-beads in, so I bought a few.

I only tried the 'fish eggs' on one finger, because I was skeptical of how it would turn out, but to my surprise...I fell in love!
My Caviar Manicure. I used a Tip Top base coat, Kangol's Aquadisiac and a Tip Top, top coat (No top coat for the caviar'd nail).
You can view the Tutorial on how to apply your caviar manicure on Ciate's website

The beads don't look like anything fancy until I used my flash or when the beads hit any light at a specific angle, the colour of the beads would just *POP*! Its Stunning!!!

Its a good idea to use nail polish that is almost exactly the same colour as your beads. If you look at the left hand picture, you can clearly see the polish underneath the 'Caviar' (Oh, How un"posh" of me :P).

BUT THEN....FAIL!

I blow dried my hair and most of the beads melted.....and promptly fell off!
All my beads died :(
I was really sad that all my hard work and time waiting for all my layers to dry properly was wasted just for it all to come off 4 hours later.

Final Thoughts

I absolutely love the concept and how the little 'fish eggs' look but in my everyday tasks it just wouldn't last.

The moral of the story is: If you have lots of money to buy good quality beads, a hair stylist that does your hair everyday and a butler that does all your housework, then your caviar manicure should hold on for quite a while. And if not...then you're probably just wasting your time.

By all means try it out for yourself, maybe you can report back on how to make your caviar manicures last. You can buy the Original Ciate Caviar Manicure set from Sephora or Amazon for $25 (R195 at current exchange rate) or directly from Ciate for $18 (R140 at current exchange rate).

I hope you enjoyed this post. Share all your DIY Caviar Manicures with me on twitter @MsClairaBella or on my Facebook Page. Don't forget to subscribe by email (Top right hand side of this page) to make sure you don't miss out on more fabulous posts in the future.

Retro Nail Art Design

Here is another really easy nail art design that adds a little 'Funk' to your everyday look. Follow the tutorial video by Indigonova1 below.

What you will need: A base coat, Any colour polish as your base colour, black nail polish/acrylic paint, White nail polish/acrylic paint, A dotting tool, Striper brush/polish and A top coat.

Dotting Tool: If you do not have a dotting tool you can make your own. Visit my Minnie Mouse nail art post and view the dotting tool tutorial by 'Cutepolish' there.

Nail Art Stripers: I have a nail art brush set so i didnt need to go find stripers. I was, however, very excited to see a whole range of Art Deco Stripers by L.A.Colors at Dischem. They are only R29.99 a bottle and they are an absolute must in any nail polish collection, especially the glittered ones! Here is a picture of what the stand looks like so pop into your nearest Dischem to find them.
L.A.Colors Nail Art Deco by Dischem

This is what i used:

The look on my nails:
Tutorial by Indigonova1 on YouTube

You can mix and match different colours to suit your style. You can even do your lines and dots different colours. Just be careful with this design when it comes to drying time. If you don't let the layers dry properly before you apply the next one it will smudge and crease. I prefer using acrylic paints because they dry way faster than nail polish. You can find Reeves acrylic paints at C.N.A or any craft shop for about R85-R90 for a tray of small tubes.

If you would like to get the same blue as in the video then i would suggest using Tip Top's Astronaut. Its almost the same blue.

Make your KONY 2012 T-shirt

I just received an email today from Invisible Children informing me that they have restocked all their KONY 2012 T-shirts. You can order yours here, but in the meantime i made my own! If you'd like to do the same, its really easy, follow the steps bellow.

Step 1

Step #1- Prepare your area with newspaper so that paint doesn't damage your surface. You will also need to put a few pieces of newspaper inside your T-shirt so that the paint doesn't transfer onto the back. Then place your stencil in the appropriate place (Girls try to put it on your stomach area because the image distorts if you place it over the bust area). You can either use your hand to keep the stencil in place or you can use tape - I used my hand.

Step 2

Step #2 - Paint the Areas of the stencil that show the T-shirt. You really don't need to be neat while doing this. Make sure you paint a thick enough layer onto your T-shirt. If you'd like you can do two layers, just make sure the first layer is dry before applying the next. Pull off your stencil when its still wet otherwise the paper will stick to your T-shirt.

Step 3

Step #3 - Ta Da! Your shirt is done. Read the information on your fabric paint container on how long you should allow the paint to dry and if they don't specify, a safe time to let it dry is 24 hours. Sometimes you will also be required to iron your design, once its dry, so the paint can set. Dont remove the newspaper in the t-shirt before its dry, otherwise the wet paint will transfer to the back. You can do your KONY 2012 T-shirt with spray paint if its easier for you.

Please share your T-Shirt creations with me on twitter @MsClairaBella or on my Facebook Page.

Dont know why I'm making this random T-shirt? Then fill yourself in by reading my blog posts about KONY 2012.

How will you be taking part in Cover The Night on the 20th April 2012?

Spoiled by L'OCCITANE

I stopped by the Menlyn L'OCCITANE store earlier last month and was treated to a very relaxing hand scrub and massage. I adored all the products in the store especially the ones used on my hands!

L'OCCITANE Menlyn
The Friendly service at the store was very helpful when i was browsing through the products. The sales lady was always nearby to answer any questions i had.
After browsing she gave me a very luxurious hand massage using the Shea one minute hand scrub and finishing it off with their infamous Shea Hand Cream. It left my hands feeling so soft and pampered! Loved it!!
L'OCCITANE Products used on my hands
Shea Butter one minute hand scrub - Its bi-phase formula contains exfoliating organic sugar to gently scrub and eliminate dead skin cells and shea, sweet almond and grapeseed oils to help soften and nourish hands. Source
Shea Butter Hand Cream - Enriched with 20% Shea Butter, this super-creamy balm penetrates quickly to protect, nourish and moisturize hands. Honey, almond extracts and coconut oil are blended with Shea Butter to create this extremely effective formula. The rich texture leaves hands soft and smooth with no oily traces. Source

L'OCCITANE products are pricier than the average brand of body products but definitely worth every cent. I wouldn't use hand fulls of product 3 times a day but rather use a little once a day to make it last!

There are so many fantastic products to choose from and only so many R100 notes to spend. Here are two L'OCCITANE products (Besides the two above) that are on my wishlist.
My Wishlist
If you are in the pretoria area and would like to visit L'OCCITANE Menlyn, they are in shop G4 (At Entrance 4 near Woolworths) and you can give them a call on (012) 348 0130.

You will need: A base coat, Red nail polish, White nail polish or acrylic paint, Black nail polish or acrylic paint, a dotting tool and a Top coat.
This is what i used:

I received a Nail art brush kit (With dotting tools) as a gift last year but if you're wondering where to get your own you can order it online at Want It All.co.za. You can also find dotting tools at a few nail salons or you can make your own by following the Cutepolish video instructions below.

Remember you can add your own design to it as well and don't need to do it exactly like the video (Like my pink dots on the bows). If you struggle to paint your right hand then rather stick to one bow on each hand (On your ring finger) and leave the rest as plain polka dots.

South Africa...Where gorgeous women are made!

First it was Charlize Theron who made us proud by making it big in Hollywood and now its the gorgeous Candice Swanepoel in the international modelling industry! If I wasn't convinced before, I definitely am now...South African girls have some serious talent.
Candice posed for the cover of GQ UK's May edition of the magazine
GQ UK May 2012 Inserts
Candice Swanepoel was born in Mooi River in 1988, in KwaZulu-Natal, and was spotted by a model scout in a Durban flea market at age 15. By age 16, she was earning R40,000 for a day's work.
Her resume includes covers for Vogue, ELLE and GQ, and advertisements for Nike, Diesel, Guess?, Tommy Hilfiger,Tom Ford, and Versace. She has walked the runway for Tommy Hilfiger, Dolce and Gabbana, Fendi, Chanel, Betsey Johnson, Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier, and numerous other designers, as well as for Victoria's Secret in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and Swim 2012. And to top it off, this beauty was voted #61 in FHM Magazine's annual 100 Sexiest Women in the World poll. Source

Now ladies it can be very easy to dislike Candice but I admire her. It takes a lot of hard work to keep in shape and not let the competitive industry get you down. We should support this South African Honey!!!

All ready for Easter

Happy Eater week everyone!

I was inspired to do this post because Easter is one of my favorite holidays. I then asked myself, what exactly is Easter all about? I know the religious reasons but whats up with the coloured eggs, the bunnies and the baby chicks? How do they all tie in with each other? Below is a little background on the Easter celebrations.

Religion:
According to the Canonical gospels, Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. His resurrection is celebrated on Easter Day or Easter Sunday. Easter marks the end of Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance. The last week of the Lent is called Holy Week, and it contains Good Friday, commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus. Easter is followed by a fifty-day period called Eastertide or the Easter Season, ending with Pentecost Sunday.

Rabbits and Hares:
Rabbits and hares are fertility symbols of antiquity. Rabbits and hares give birth to large litters in the early spring, these became symbols of the rising fertility of the earth.

Adorable! (Cat Obsessed) - Image from Google

Eggs & Chicks:
The precise origin of the ancient custom of decorating eggs is not known, although evidently the blooming of many flowers in spring coincides with the use of the fertility symbol of eggs—and eggs boiled with some flowers change their color, bringing the spring into the homes.

Eater Egg Hunting - Images from Google
So when Jesus rose again it was like being reborn and fertility symbols, like bunnies, eggs and spring (flowers), are used to celebrate his resurrection (Easter). Hunting for eggs is just something fun for kids to do :)

In our house its important to spend Easter with family so we usually all get together and have breakfast or lunch. If you do the same then bellow are some cute ideas for entertaining your guests.

I spent 2 months in Denmark when i was 10 and they have an Easter tradition of having an Easter Tree. Its pretty much just a container/bucket filled with sand/stones and a few twigs/branches put in. Its usually not as big as a Christmas tree because its used as a table center piece. You then hang decorated eggs and other Easter ornaments on. I love this idea and try do it every Easter.
Easter Tree - Image from Google
Another easy but cute idea for Easter is Nail art. Here is nail art that i did on my nails by following the Tutorial video below. Its super easy, all you have to do is make sure you have all the correct colours. (Mine was a bit too neon).

March Favorites

1) Tip Top Nails, Melting Marshmallow (R39.99) - I absolutely love this colour. Click here for my post on Obsession - Tip top's Melting Marshmallow.

2) Bones - Bones is an American crime drama television series on the Fox Network. The show is based on forensic anthropology and forensic archaeology, with each episode focusing on an FBI case file concerning the mystery behind human remains brought by FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) to the forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel).

My boyfriend and i started watching Bones from season 1 at the beginning of the year and we're currently on season 6 (Season 7 is being filmed now). Its so interesting how they solve murders and how all the friendships and relationships evolve. Its a great watch! Source

3) Dove go fresh anti-perspirant deodorant (Cool cucumber & green tea scent) (R18.99) - I absolutely love this deodorant. It smells really fresh and leaves my skin smooth. The weather has still been hot and I have used Dove go fresh anti-perspirant deodorant everyday. *Love it*

4) Sorbet's Hydrating body lotion (R30) - Sorbet has seventeen exciting products from four ranges including firming, cleansing, hydrating and smoothing. I bought their Hydratung body lotion with Tangerine, Calendula Oil Shea Butter and Vitamin E and I love it. My skin has benefited from using this moisturizer. I love that it stays on your skin for long and doesn't just sink in and then you feel like your skin is dry again. Its the perfect moisturizer for winter.

5) Pieter Toerien's Funny Business at Monte Casino (R160pp) - This was such a great show! I haven't laughed so much in a long time. The actors were fantastic and improvised really well when even they could keep their laughter in. They made the audience feel apart of the show and interacted with a few people during the show. Definitely a must see!!! (Show ends on the 29th of April)

Story Line:
When Ferris (Committie) agrees to look after his sister`s seedy hotel during her temporary absence, he does not anticipate the arrival of a notorious journalist who writes a critical column for a Sunday newspaper. Or, that this arrival will coincide with a visit to the hotel from an assortment of guests who all have guilty secrets they do not wish to have divulged.
As a result, Ferris is caught up in a dizzy round of lies, misunderstanding, verbal sparring, physical hi-jinx and baffling subterfuge as he tries to protect the hotel`s reputation in the eyes of the visiting journalist - a task made far more difficult by the fact that he does not know which of the guests IS the journalist!!
